Earth Day 2012
Earth day Anthem
There are many songs that are performed on Earth Day, that generally fall into two categories. The "Earth Day Anthem" below satisfies these requirements for a universal song associated with Earth Day. Ludwig van Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" melody is already the official anthem of the European Union (in that case purely instrumental without lyrics), the melody is widely recognized and easily performed, in the public domain, and originally composed for voice.
“Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world”
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world”
Earth Day has been observed on 22nd April every year as an annual event celebrated around the world for the past four decades. The purpose of Earth Day is to honour, appreciate, protect, and respect the environment. The first Earth Day was held in 1970 in the United States, and drew over 20 million Americans from different communities and college campuses to become involved with environmental issues. Nelson chose the date in order to maximize participation on college campuses for what he conceived as an "environmental teach-in". He determined the week of April 19–25 was the best bet as it did not fall during exams or spring breaks. Moreover, it did not conflict with religious holidays such as Easter or Passover, and was late enough in spring to have decent weather. More students were likely to be in class, and there would be less competition with other mid-week events—so he chose April 22. This Day also allows citizens to create awareness of the environment and to learn how people’s everyday decisions affect the environment. Earth Day has become one of the largest outdoor events in recent years, with about one billion people joining in the activities in thousands of different locations around the world. It is important to create awareness on how to save the earth from damage by pollution. It is up to us to make the earth a safer and healthier place for future generations. People’s everyday actions are related to pollution, which is destroying the environment and impacting human life. Pollution consists of anything that causes insecurity, chaos, harm or worry to bodies of living organisms. Pollution comes in different forms; it can be: air, noise, water, land, or chemical pollution, as well as many more. Air pollution affects human life through breathing, while water pollution has its own effects on marine life. Land pollution affects the land, destroying life and the environment, even noise also affects hearing. Individuals can start planting trees, garden beds and flowers by creating a green environment for generations to come. Earth Day is a day of educating the public in promoting a healthy, clean earth. Let’s take some time to promote a healthy, clean earth.
