Netaji’s Birth Day

Netaji’s Birth Day 23rd January is observed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary. It is ironic that this day is not observed with much enthusiasm throughout the country like the birth anniversaries of other great men and women who laid down their lives at the altar of freedom. Similar national apathy is seen in the case of other great freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Lala Lajpat Rai and others. Instead of regarding these great patriots as ‘National Heroes’, they have been relegated to the regions where they were born. There seems a political motivation behind such unhealthy moves. In the course of struggle for freedom Netaji formed Azad Hind Government and led the Indian National Army. He advocated a revolutionary and violent way to protest as opposed to non-violent approach by Mahatma Gandhi. Following the differences with Mahatma Gandhi he separated from Indian National Congress (INC) and founded his own party on 3 May 193

IMD Foundation Day By Dr Arvind Kumar IMD is also one of the six Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers of the World Meteorological Centers. It has the responsibility for forecasting, naming and distribution of warnings for tropical cyclones in the Northern Indian Ocean region, including the Malacca Straits, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf. 15 th January marks the auspicious occasion of the 140 th  anniversary of the foundation of the India Meterological Department. During all these years of its existence, IMD has contributed tremendously for the development of science of meteorology over the sub-continent. Indian Army Day Dr. Arvind Kumar 15 January is observed as Army Day every year in India, in recognition of Lt Genl. (later Field Marshal) K.M. Cariapa's taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Sir Francis Butcher, the last British commander, in 1949. The day is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows in national capital as well as all 6 Army Command headquarters. Today India celebrates 67 th Indian Army day. This Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect our country and the people living in it. On this day in 1948 Lieutenant General K. M. Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. General Kodandera Madappa Cariappa shared a good bonding with both natives and Britishers and then succeeded General Roy Butcher of British Army to become the first Indian Commander in Chief of the democratic India.
