International Youth Day 2019 : Transforming Education
‘With
600 million young people, India is the youngest nation in the world, with at
least half of the country’s 1.2 billion population comprised of people under
the age of 26. According to the #IndiaSkillsReport 2018, over 12 million youth
between 15 and 29 years will enter India’s labor force every year over the next
two decade’.
The
theme for #InternationalYouthDay2019 is '#TransformingEducation',
highlighting efforts to make education more inclusive and accessible for all
youth. Looking at the vagaries of #climatechange, it becomes utmost necessity
to engage youth more actively because they are the Conscience keepers of our #Environment, acting as stewards who can largely involve & embrace #ClimateResiliencestrategies in making positive contributions to their communities.
Going
by the words of Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary General, United Nations,
“Education today should combine knowledge, life skills and critical thinking”,
and should include information on sustainability and climate change. And it should
advance gender equality, human rights and a culture of peace”. In saying so, we
need to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive to achieve the
goals of #SustainableDevelopment2030. Education is a ‘#DevelopmentConnectorandMultiplier’ and it plays a pivotal role in accelerating progress as a
fundamental tool both for sustainable development and for the full inclusion of
various social groups.
The
power of young people reflects active champions of ‘Information, Inclusivity
& Empowerment’ and much ahead to realize their rights to become ‘Agents of
change’. Seizing a similar golden opportunity as a proactive catalyst, our
current endeavor ‘#EcoRoutesstakeholderdialogue’ garnered new dimension where
we raised awareness of the youth community by envisaging a ‘Development from
below’ model and created the much needed #YoungChampions at the Field
level who are committing themselves to the cause of #sustainableenvironment and has set a good precedent for others to Inspire and Emulate.
So,
on this International Youth Day, Lets commit to making education more relevant,
equitable and inclusive and reap the full spectrum of ‘Demographic Dividend’
who can live to their fullest potentials and support youth calling for more
Ambitious Climate Action in line with SDGs and Paris Agreement.
